Coastal Salt Pans in Gozo

A Tradition Carved into the Coastline

Along the rugged limestone shores of Gozo, salt harvesting is an ancient craft preserved across generations. Hand-carved into the coastal bedrock, our salt pans rely on the simple interplay of Mediterranean sea water, brilliant summer sunshine, and coastal winds.

"Every crystal is formed naturally as sea water evaporates in shallow rock basins under the hot Gozo sun."

Hand-Harvested Quality

Unlike industrial salt, which undergoes heavy refining and chemical bleaching, our sea salt is harvested entirely by hand during the warm summer months. Ocean water is channeled into the salt pans, where it gradually concentrates and crystallizes into delicate flakes and mineral-rich coarse salt.

Once dried, the salt is gathered with traditional wooden tools, carefully swept, and left to dry naturally before being packed. Nothing is added, and nothing is taken away leaving you with pure, unrefined sea salt packed with natural Mediterranean minerals.

Sustainably Packaged

We respect the natural environment that gives us our harvest. Our sea salt is offered in durable, reusable glass jars designed for your kitchen counter, as well as lightweight, eco-friendly cotton refill pouches to minimize packaging waste and postage costs.

How to Enjoy Gozo Salt Flakes

The Art of Finishing

Unlike standard coarse salt used during cooking, hand-harvested salt flakes are a delicate finishing salt. To preserve their unique mineral crunch and subtle ocean sweetness, crumble a pinch over your food just before serving.

🥩

Grilled Meats & Fresh Fish

Pinch lightly between your fingers over seared ribeye steak, roasted lamb, or grilled sea bass right as it rests off the heat.

🍅

Fresh Produce & Crusty Bread

Elevate ripe Maltese summer tomatoes, avocado, or warm sourdough dipped in local extra virgin olive oil with a light dusting of flakes.

🍫

Gourmet Sweets & Chocolate

Sprinkle over warm dark chocolate brownies, salted caramel ice cream, or fresh watermelon slices for an incredible flavor contrast.

💡

Pro Tip: Don't throw your flakes into boiling pasta water! For cooking and boiling, use our Coarse Crystal Sea Salt instead—save these light flakes for raw texture and final seasoning.
